Greenpeace pleads for blue badge

Greenpeace has called on the environment ministers of the countries to maintain the blue sticker for low-emission cars. This was the only way mayors could keep the dirtiest diesels out of town, greenpeace transport expert tobias austrup told the dpa. Although it would make sense to re-lubricate diesels in order to reduce the emission of harmful nitrogen oxides, it would "not be enough by a long shot. It was "shameful" that obviously some environment ministers were printing off the sticker.

A little over a year ago, the conference of environment ministers proposed the blue sticker, setting off a fierce debate. Transport minister alexander dobrindt (csu) was against it, the project is on ice. On friday (5. May 2017), the ministers plan to present demands on the subject of air pollution, among other things, in bad saarow in brandenburg. Working papers from the conference revealed that there is no agreement on the blue sticker.

Many cities are struggling with excessive nitrogen oxide levels caused by diesel exhaust fumes. Driving bans have been announced for stuttgart and hamburg. Most recently, federal environment minister barbara hendricks (spd) called for diesel engines to be retrofitted at the expense of car manufacturers in order to reduce pollutant emissions.
